Baby Shower Express #023: A Baby Shower For Book Lovers
Hi,
It's that time of the month again, and on this issue of Baby Shower Express, we would like to feature a shower that will be appreciated by all the upcoming mommies out there who happen to love books as much as we do.
If you're wondering if this is the right shower theme for your friend, ask yourself if she either A) absolutely loves reading books of this genre and that, B) would love to build a library for her baby and family with some cool book collections, or C) would love to receive cool books that would help her take care of her little one once s/he is out. If you answered Yes on one of those, then this might just be the right baby shower theme for her.
First and foremost, you need to know the genre she loves, since this will greatly affect your shower preparations, primarily the decoration and menu part.
So if she absolutely loves sci-fi, then be sure to have lots of silvers, dark blues, golds and similar hues. Robots in all shapes and sizes, space ship cut-outs in gold and silver foils, some glow in the dark items are what you want to dominate your party room. To make sure you will be serving the right food, you need to ensure that everything is in bite size pieces, since people in space will have no time to cut through a thick steak like we do. Brownies, mac and cheese, and spaghetti are pretty popular as space food, and of course, this might be a good time to try out some astronaut ice cream, if you and your friends want some cool and unique experience.
If she prefers historical romance, then you might want to decorate your party room to look like a ballroom from long time ago – grand-looking chandeliers, big oriental vases, carpets, Queen Anne sofa chairs, paintings on your walls are very welcome. Adding pictures of typical historical romance book covers with the hero and heroine in some sexy pose are quite expected. Your menu, on the other hand, should be mainly composed of sexy and what we call aphrodisiac foods - asparagus, basil, honey, oysters, chocolate, bananas, and strawberries are just a few examples.
That should give you the right idea on how to proceed if she happens to prefer another genre altogether.
Now on to your shower activities. Some treasure hunt game wherein babies and books are somewhat mixed together should make you a good theme-based activity. So is a memory game with the same idea. Or better yet, have a race to test your guests' ABC ability and have them sort out books in alphabetical order within the shortest amount time.
